about the studio
Potbank Sheffield is the workshop and teaching studio of me, Gareth Bromley. You can read more about my experience below.
Tucked away in a rambling, newly-renovated Georgian building, the studio is part of the community at Bank Street Studios, home to a variety of creative practitioners. Welcoming, and full of natural light, it’s a beautiful space to work, and a hidden gem in Sheffield city centre.
I currently offer short-term courses and one-off classes. In the near future, I plan to teach more specific weekend workshops (such as production throwing and glaze chemistry) as well as host masterclasses from visiting potters. Ultimately, I want to create a space of curiosity and exploration of all things ceramic, for potters of all levels.
about me
Originally from Bristol, I have been making pots for almost a decade now, starting with evening classes as a break from my job as an English teacher.
What began as a hobby quickly grew into an obsession, leading me to seek more thorough training: an apprenticeship in Icheon, South Korea, was followed by two years of intensive study on the studio ceramics diploma course at Clay College, Stoke-on-Trent, where I was taught all the skills needed to be a studio potter. These experiences were personally and creatively transformative, opening my eyes to the range of things that can be achieved in clay, and bringing me into contact with established makers for whom making was a viable way of life.
Having such an incredible, expansive education has been a real privilege, and has taught me the value of teaching which aims not to create legions of identical makers, but guides and encourages each individual towards something that is uniquely their own. Through my own teaching I hope to continue this model, helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to find their own distinctive voice.

There is limited metered on-street parking available on Bank Street itself; otherwise there are many nearby car parks such as Hartshead Square (closest) or Workhouse Lane (cheapest)
